Market Report, 2026-08-11

Stocks slid slightly as investors braced for tomorrow’s economic data. The Consumer Price Index, one of the most important measures of inflation, is very likely to trigger major market moves in either direction. At present, there are no notable developments, with the geopolitical situation remaining unclear while AI investment continues to boom.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 184 points to 53,792. The NASDAQ declined by 0.6% to 26,445. The S&P 500 fell by 0.32% to 7,728. The energy sector continued to be the day’s top-performing sector, as risks in the Middle East do not appear to be going away. Most other sectors posted losses, including the heavyweight technology sector.

The bond market saw some small gains; however, the moves were not large enough to provide any meaningful signal. The 5-year U.S. Treasury yield declined by 1 basis point to 4.39%, while the 10-year yield remained unchanged at 4.69%. The price of gold held above the 4,400 mark.

The economic reports released today were on the optimistic side. The Small Business Optimism Index came in significantly higher than expected, largely because fuel costs fell significantly in July, easing inflationary concerns. At the same time, existing home sales also slightly topped estimates.

As we enter the heart of this new earnings season, many corporate results will be released and shape the market over the next month. Adams Wealth Advisors will continue to monitor developments and provide further insights.
