U.S. stocks finished the week higher despite mid-week volatility surrounding artificial intelligence valuations, persistent inflation, and elevated borrowing costs. The Dow gained approximately 0.9% to close at 51,655, the NASDAQ advanced 0.6% to 27,366, and the S&P 500 rose 1.2% to 7,812. Sector performance reflected improving market breadth, with strength extending beyond technology into financials, health care, energy, and other economically sensitive areas. Industrials and technology lagged the broader market over the week as investors reassessed growth expectations and AI-related investment spending.

Treasury yields stabilized and retreated modestly from their midweek highs, providing some relief to equities. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield finished near 5.24%, down from approximately 5.36% earlier in the week. Nevertheless, yields remain historically elevated, reflecting persistent inflation concerns, substantial federal borrowing, and expectations that monetary policy will remain restrictive.

Federal Reserve policy remained central to the week's narrative. Wednesday's meeting minutes indicated that policymakers continue to see inflation as a significant concern and generally anticipate additional tightening, although the timing remains uncertain. Fed Governor Christopher Waller reinforced this measured approach, suggesting further rate increases may be appropriate but need not occur aggressively. Earlier in the week, the ISM Services report showed that economic activity continued expanding, albeit at a slightly slower pace than expected, while elevated input prices highlighted persistent inflationary pressures. Together, these developments suggest the economy remains resilient enough to allow the Fed to proceed cautiously.

Looking ahead, September's consumer and producer inflation reports, retail sales, and the beginning of third-quarter bank earnings will offer important insight into pricing pressures, consumer resilience, and corporate profitability. That’s it for this week. Adams Wealth Advisors will be back next week to keep you informed on the markets and economy. Have a great weekend.
