U.S. stocks finished higher on Tuesday as yields stabilized and investors gauge the level of overreactions in stock prices in prior days. In a rare feat, the market was largely lifted by non-AI related stocks as a series of high-profile earnings released in the morning helped creating a broader market rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained approximately 530 points to 52,496, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.28% to 7,713. The technology-heavy NASDAQ Composite slipped 0.02% to 26,425. Healthcare led the market, gaining approximately 2.4% and reaching a new record high. Real estate and utilities also performed strongly, advancing approximately 1.7% and 1.2%, respectively. Meanwhile, technology shares struggled to maintain their earlier recovery as concerns persisted over the financing costs and profitability of AI infrastructure investments. Treasury yields declined mildly as oil prices retreated. The 5-year Treasury yield stayed flat at 4.93%, while the 10-year yield decreased 2 basis points to 5.11%. Economic data presented a less encouraging picture. September housing starts fell below expectations, while pending home sales declined substantially more than anticipated to a record low. These results suggest that elevated mortgage rates and affordability constraints continue to weigh on housing activity despite broader economic resilience. We should briefly cover the earnings of SpaceX, which could be crucial to the AI investment theme. Thursday's initial jobless claims and Friday's preliminary manufacturing and services activity reports will also provide important information ahead of next week's Federal Reserve meeting.
