On the second day of the week, stocks rallied for the second consecutive day. Renewed enthusiasm for the AI trade continued as the market further digested news of Anthropic's upcoming IPO. Investors were excited to learn that Anthropic had more than $100 billion in cash at the end of June, a figure that demonstrated its continued ability to fund future growth. All major stock indices ended the day in the green. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, often considered a more defensive index, rose just 16 points to 52,378. The NASDAQ rallied 1.18% to 26,478. The S&P 500 gained 0.6% to 7,723. With AI once again dominating market sentiment, technology stocks led the rally with a gain of nearly 1.6%, followed by materials, consumer discretionary, utilities, and industrial stocks. All other sectors ended the day in the red. Energy stocks posted the largest loss at 2.05% amid emerging speculation about de-escalation in the Middle East. The bond market held steady. The U.S. 5-year Treasury yield rose 2 basis points to 4.84%, while the 10-year yield increased by 1 basis point to 5.00%. Economic data were largely positive today. Durable goods orders increased more than expected in September, home prices declined slightly in August, and new home sales exceeded economists' estimates. The consumer confidence report also showed a significant improvement compared with four months earlier, largely driven by declining retail gasoline prices over the past month. Tomorrow, investors will be closely watching the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and the subsequent press conference.
