Market Report, 2026-10-15

U.S. stocks recovered from early losses Thursday as falling Treasury yields helped stabilize markets following another wave of selling in artificial intelligence-related stocks. Concerns about the sustainability of debt-financed AI infrastructure investment continued to weigh on technology companies, but improving demand for stocks outside the sector supported a broader recovery.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 556 points to 52,178, while the S&P 500 gained 0.33% to 7,744. The NASDAQ Composite recovered from a sharp morning decline to finish 0.08% higher at 26,713. The rebound was accompanied by significant sector rotation. Healthcare and materials led the market, advancing approximately 1.9% and 1.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, technology declined approximately 0.7%, reflecting continued pressure on semiconductor and other AI-related companies. Energy stocks fell approximately 1.6%.

Treasury yields declined sharply despite another unexpectedly strong inflation report. The 5-year Treasury yield fell approximately 10 basis points to 4.9%, while the 10-year yield dropped roughly 11 basis points to 5.08%. Investors appeared more concerned about risks surrounding the AI investment cycle than inflation, prompting renewed demand for government bonds.

Economic reports continued to present an inflationary environment. September producer prices increased significantly more than anticipated, suggesting persistent inflationary pressure. Meanwhile, retail sales exceeded expectations, indicating continued strength in consumer spending. Weekly unemployment claims remained low.

Friday's industrial production and import-price reports will provide additional insight into economic activity and inflation. Investors will also continue assessing corporate earnings and the stability of AI-related stocks. Adams Wealth Advisors will continue watching the market and bring you the latest updates.
